HPL Phenolic

Fiber Cement Rainscreen Panels

Material Overview:

HPL (High Pressure Laminates) are highly durable exterior wall cladding products that are available in a diverse range of decors to create a contemporary, cost effective rainscreen façade.  HPL panel manufacturers have a large range of colors and patterns to select from, and can offer either printed images or actual wood grains.

Design Considerations:

HPL is produced in sheets and fabricated to finished panel sizes.  The designer has the ability to create varying degrees of patterns and panel shapes on the building - often using numerous colors to create intrigue and a creative design aesthetic. Off–fall of material is a design and fabrication consideration, so as to maximize the panel’s yield.  Both concealed and exposed color-matched rivet systems are available.

CREC Aerospace and Engineering Academy

The CREC Aerospace and Engineering Academy, designed by Friar Architecture, transformed an existing office building into a cutting-edge educational facility for 735 students in grades 6–12. The project included selective demolition back to the structure and a full interior and exterior renovation to support its aerospace and engineering curriculum. ECO Cladding’s subframing system supports 55,000 square feet of Fundermax HPL panels, delivering a modern and durable façade. The school features specialized labs, fabrication and manufacturing spaces, and distinct zones for high school, middle school, and technical education, all designed to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.

1550 Evans - San Francisco, CA

Located at 1550 Evans Avenue, the Southeast Community Center (SECC) in San Francisco is a vibrant, state-of-the-art facility designed to serve and celebrate the local community. The building features Parklex high-pressure laminate (HPL) panels with a natural wood grain aesthetic, supported by ECO Cladding’s engineered attachment system for long-term performance and durability. Designed as a cultural and educational hub, the SECC includes event spaces, an amphitheater, a café, public workspaces, and greenspaces - all created to foster connection, creativity, and empowerment. ECO Cladding’s rainscreen support system played a key role in achieving both the architectural vision and the sustainability goals of this important civic project.

The CREC Ana Grace Academy of the Arts - Bloomfield, CT

The CREC Ana Grace Academy of the Arts – "Dance" in Bloomfield, Connecticut, is a 156,800-square-foot facility designed by Friar Architecture to immerse students in a curriculum rooted in the arts. The building features 56,000 square feet of Fundermax HPL panels supported by ECO Cladding’s adjustable attachment system, delivering a bold, durable façade that reflects the school’s creative mission. Sculptural mullions inspired by dancers and shadow play enhance the building’s dynamic exterior, complementing its interior spaces dedicated to music, theater, sculpture, and visual arts. ECO Cladding’s system provided the flexibility and performance required to support this expressive, high-performing educational environment.
