UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Lehman College Nursing Center
Designed by Urbahn Architects, installation on the state-of-the-art CUNY Lehman College Nursing Education, Research & Practice Center (NERPC) in the Bronx is now underway with a fiber concrete rainscreen facade and a variation of our concealed Alpha Vci.40 subframing assembly.
The 3-story building is situated on the campus mall, between the two iconic buildings - the Gothic Davis Hall and the Brutalist Carmen Hall. As a result, the complex location called for an innovative design. The Nursing Education, Research, and Practice Center will become a new home for the Department of Health Sciences, Human Services, and Nursing at Lehman College, a public college in the Bronx within the CUNY network. The project will be focused on the nursing simulation lab which will recreate a clinical environment where students will get experience with real-world situations involving pediatrics, labor and delivery, and trauma procedures on high-tech simulated patients while remotely monitored by faculty. The design of the building will enhance collaboration with casual social areas that support learning beyond the classroom. With completion expected by the Fall of 2023, this project will truly represent a balance between art and science.
A variation of our Vci.40 concealed subframing system will be utilized for the installation of the ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) panels for this project. The concealed, undercut anchoring will provide a high-performance attachment approach, allowing the attachments to be invisible and the installation to be time-saving. All of ECO Cladding’s system components are non-combustible and are not triggers for either fireblocking or fire testing requirements in the International Building Code (IBC). Our ability to engineer variations to our standard Alpha Vci.40 system for this project to address dead load, wind load, seismic concerns, thermal requirements, and material deflection for backup wall conditions will ensure long-life rainscreen performance.
