Project Update: UNM Lobo Welcome Center

We're excited to share an exciting update on our involvement in the UNM Lobo Welcome Center project. Working closely with the visionary architects at McClain & Yu, we were tasked with realizing a bold and innovative vision: vertically oriented baguettes in a vibrant, random pattern of 7 stunning colors - blue, red, black, white, brown, beige, and orange. The uniqueness of this design required the ability to interchange baguettes easily without disrupting the system, making it a true testament to engineering excellence and artistic vision.
Sustainability was at the forefront of this project. We're proud to have contributed to a facade that features entirely recycled materials, blending natural elements with high-performance clay and aluminum. Our ECO brackets played a pivotal role, offering minimal touchpoints to the structure, reducing thermal heat transfer and water penetration.
The technical precision required for this project was nothing short of exceptional. We collaborated with Cladding Corp to provide design assistance, ensuring the desired layout and constructibility were achieved. Our solution allowed for the individual interchangeability of baguettes without affecting other components of the system, making maintenance and customization a seamless process.
The construction management phase saw innovative solutions come to life. Horizontal "L" angles were predrilled to seamlessly receive baguette fixing brackets. These brackets were preassembled to the "L" angles on the ground and then efficiently fastened into place on the framing. The inner fixing components of the baguettes were also preassembled, streamlining the installation process. Witnessing the installation team rappelling down the walls, deftly installing baguettes with swift precision, was a testament to the time and cost-saving benefits of our preassembled efforts.
We couldn't be prouder to have played a pivotal role in bringing this architectural masterpiece to life.
