Timber

Timber Wood Panels
Preferred Partners:

Material Overview:

Timber panels represent a wooden panel product that offers both density and durability in certain rainscreen contexts. Colors can evolve and change over the life of the product, providing designers with an exterior facade that offers organic variety and the ability to weather naturally over time.

Design Considerations:

Timber panels are an interesting choice for rainscreen appliations given the density of their structure. The panels themselves do not take well to stain or exterior finishes and so it is recommended to allow them to age and 'silver' over time, creating a natural and modern exterior aesthetic. Trinity School - New York, NY

ECO Cladding’s versatile systems are ideal for the complexities of retrofit and renovation projects. Rogers Partners has been working continuously with the Trinity School to coordinate a complicated renovation and expansion for this independent K-12 school on New York’s Upper West Side of Manhattan.

For this project, the design team selected two ECO Cladding subframing systems to serve as the engineered backbone for natural slate and IPE wood rainscreen facades. The need to integrate two different rainscreen materials on the same elevations seamlessly led the design team to selected ECO Cladding’s built-in system adjustability. An adjustable Hci.14 system was utilized to focus on the thermal performance of the exterior envelope, meeting the design team’s requirements. ECO Cladding systems are ideal for retrofit and renovation projects, given their ability to address c.i. requirements and also accommodate out-of-plumb wall conditions without sacrificing air barrier performance.

Story County Medical Center - Nevada, IA

Invision Architecture of Des Moines designed the expansion of the Story County Medical Center - Outpatient Unit. This impressive design portrays a sense of peace and tranquility articulated in the exterior facade design.

The building blends together wood, Terra5 terracotta panels with a Vci.45 subframing system, lighting, glass, and complementary landscaping. From the front entrance to the waiting area and patient rooms - the building's striking terracotta rainscreen cladding facade and Alpha Vci.10 exposed fasten concrete reflects a clean and professional atmosphere.  The choice of white terracotta allows the back of the building to have a simple statement, while visitors' eyes are drawn to the front entrance. The crisp white is then echoed throughout the interior, allowing the exterior to also serve as an interior design function.
